America letter # 16. Liturgy.
April 6, 2008
Dear friends,
I have been to the Institute of Liturgical Studies in Valparaiso, Indiana, and it was great! We were ten students from Wartburg who had got scholarship to travel, so we left the chapel and classrooms at Wartburg for the chapel and classrooms at Valparaiso University. High church Lutherans and a few especially interested from other denominations met to a three days liturgical feast.
The theme for this year’s institute was “Liturgy and the Public Square” and one of the heights was Gordon Lathrop’s lecture on the sending from worship, “God in peace. Remember the poor.” His leading the closing worship was also an experience, where 400 participants gathered around the enormous altar for the Eucharistic liturgy.
For those who have much interest, see http://valpo.edu/ils/
God’s peace,
Hanne
