America letter # 13. Fastfeast.

March 9, 2008

Dear friends,

Lutherans here do not sneak in the Annunciation during Lent (they do in Norway) when it really comes after Easter (March 25), so you have to make other excuses to take a feast during the fast. Lent is long if you do not find such excuses, but there have been some this year.

Leap year is a good excuse. A couple working much with the international students invited to a leap year party Friday last week. All other numbers than 29 were prohibited from speech, and we managed quite a few conversations about 29 this and 29 that. American games, Spoon and Guesstures, variations of games I know from Norway, were also explored.

Saturday last week we had Black Tie Jazz at Wartburg (I am not sure whether there was a good excuse), and we only missed the bride and the groom; there were some pretty dresses. Sunday last week I attended a concert with Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, much good music in one weekend.

This weekend we have had Conference on Ministry with prospective students visiting. Wartburg students always show up when there is free food (which students do not?), and yesterday there was also entertainment with both children and adults, present and prospective students, on stage.

So, yes, I am social, but I also have enough to finish the last week before the Easter holidays, so you do not hear that much from me…

Greetings from Hanne.
