America letter # 9. End of semester and new adventures.
December 14, 2007
Dear friends,
Today is the last day of the fall semester, and many of us were done yesterday, so now it is only we who are very fond of the library sitting here…
Sunday I will travel to San Francisco where I arrive an hour before my family will come from Norway. Mom, Trond (my mother’s partner), Einar and Karoline will be here almost two weeks. We will rent a car and experience some of the states farthest west in the USA. We will visit Grand Canyon and Yosemite national parks, that is, experience nature which is different from Norway.
December 27th I travel to Bangladesh where I will stay for a month. The reason for my travel is a 10-year evaluation of the partnership between Buskerud YWCA-YMCA (my region in Norway) and Bangladesh YWCA. In addition I will have time to visit friends, known places, and hopefully a few new places. Wartburg have what they call J-term, a January semester, where many take a three week study trip to another country. I have made an independent study with one of the professors here as supervisor. It means that I will read a bit, reflect and write about what I think and experience. I look forward to this extra learning.
February 4th the spring semester starts at Wartburg. I expect to see a computer before that. But I do not know how frequent letters there will be these weeks.
With wishes for still a good Advent and a blessed Christmas,
Hanne
