Letter from Palestine, 22. Prayer.

28th January 2005

Dear friends!

I have to start with a sad message. I have one less recipient of my letters now. I got the message this morning that my father is dead. The first I did was to go to the church. The priests were about to leave to Galilee with a study group. But they spent time for a short talk and prayer. It is good that some understand the importance of prayer. I travel home to Norway now, but will come back to Palestine in a week.

This is not a long letter. But I want to say a little more about prayer. The week of prayer for Christian unity is arranged in Jerusalem this week. I think it was in the rest of the world last week. I have attended two services, in the Melkite (Greek-Catholic) Church in the Old City on Sunday, and in the Room of the Last Supper yesterday.

Jerusalem is not only a place where different peoples and religions have fought. Different denominations have also been in conflict about the holy sites. Then it is good to have a week like this, showing that we can stand together. Church leaders from several denominations lead the services together, and the congregation consists of members from many churches. Prayer for unity is central. The fellowship is great.

Greetings from Hanne.
